What Are the Continuing Education Requirements for 2022, 2023, 2024?
In 2020, the Florida Board of Cosmetology decreased the continuing education renewal requirement for cosmetologists and specialists from 16 hours to 10 hours. This change applies to cosmetology, facial specialist, nail specialist, and full specialist licenses and registrations. You can read more here.
Is this course package approved by the Florida Board of Cosmetology?
Yes. We are a Florida Board of Cosmetology-approved provider (#0007442). The course number is 0501351.
This Florida board-approved continuing education course can be taken by cosmetologists (hairstylists), nail specialists (nail techs), facial specialists (estheticians), or full specialists to renew their license or registration.
Do I need to report my completed Florida cosmetology continuing education hours?
No. We take care of that for you! Florida board-approved providers must report completed continuing education credits to The Bureau of Education and Testing within 30 days of completion, 10 days if it is near the October 31st renewal date.
We know you do not want to wait that long to see your continuing education credits posted. As a courtesy, we report your completed course credits the next business day after successful completion of the course exam.
How do I complete the 10-Hour Florida Cosmetology Continuing Education Course?
After purchase, the course reading material and exam are immediately available for you to access. You can start the course right away, or wait until you are ready. The course is self-paced and you can complete it whenever it works for you.
The course package includes a 30 question multiple-choice exam and course evaluation. Unlimited exam retakes are allowed if you do not reach the passing score.
After a passing score (75%) is achieved, a certificate is immediately available for you to download and print. We automatically receive a notification of your exam completion and report your hours to the Bureau which tracks continuing education for the Florida Board of Cosmetology that same day!

- One (1) hour HIV/AIDS
- Three (3) hours of Sanitation and Sterilization
- One-half (.5) hour OSHA
- One-half (.5) hour Workers’ Compensation

If your license is currently delinquent (missed either the 2022 or 2023 renewal)
If you failed to renew your license in 2022 or 2023, your license is probably listed as “delinquent, active” on the DBPR license verification website. This means you have missed one renewal period. To get your license back to “active” status, you need to complete 10 hours of board-approved continuing education (this course). Then you can log into the DBPR/Board of Cosmetology website. complete the renewal process, and print your renewed license.
If your license is currently null and void (missed 2021 or earlier renewals)
If you did not renew in 2021 or any time before that, your license is likely now null and void. A null and void license means you have missed two renewal deadlines. If you have a null and void license, you first need to complete a 4-hour HIV/AIDS course for the null and void application. You will need to include the certificate from your 4-hour HIV/AIDS course with your null and void application.
What if I do not see my 10 CE hours reported after 48 hours?
First, check your exam certificate and make sure you provided us with the correct license number. If your license number was not correct, contact us here. If your license number was correct, check out this troubleshooting guide for other reasons you may not see your hours just yet.
How do I renew my license once I complete this Florida cosmetology continuing education course?
Go to the DBPR website, www.myfloridalicense.com. Log in and pay your renewal fees. Then you can print off your license on the Cosmetology Board website. We made a short video of how to do that right here: How To Print Your Cosmetology License.
Is this course only available in English?

The course is in English, but you can easily translate any page into any language, including Spanish, Mandarin (Chinese), Korean, or Vietnamese if you are familiar with using a page translator. Our FAQ page has a short video on how to translate a page in Google Chrome.
Are there any exemptions for continuing education or CEs?
Yes! As of July 1st, 2024 a licensee is exempt from continuing education requirements if they meet the following criteria:
The licensee is licensed by one of the following Department of Business and Professional Regulation Boards:
- Barbers’ Board
- Board of Cosmetology
and
- The licensee holds an active license.
- The licensee has held their license continuously for at least 10 years.
